The Solar Plexus Chakra in Reiki

May 23rd, 2008

The solar plexus chakra is the third chakra in the body. This chakra is used as a portal in Reiki, and therefore, must be opened and cleared from blockages when used in Reiki healing. The solar plexus chakra has several attributes and functions that help with the physical, mental and emotional states of the body.

The solar plexus chakra has several unique names that it may be referred to, including the navel center, liver chakra, stomach chakra, spleen chakra and manipura chakra. This chakra is located above the navel and when its energies are in tact will open forward. This will create what it is referred to as a ten petal lotus. Inside of this chakra are several secondary chakras that can open to universal energies.

The main purpose of this chakra is to create a center for life. This chakra has the ability to give life as well as create and generate emotional energies. Many will state that this chakra forms the best between the ages of 15 and 21. Its purpose is to create a shaping of being. It is also known to be associated with transformation and purification. When one’s solar plexus chakra is open, it will directly affect the sense of sight. It may also directly affect the pancreas or liver, as well as the liver, stomach and spleen.

The aura that is used in association with the solar plexus is a bright yellow. When the chakra is open, this aura will be apparent to a Reiki instructor. In relation to this, the solar plexus is often referred to as relating to the element of fire. When one goes through a healing with the solar plexus, they may have visions of sunlight or sunflowers in relation to this.

Reiki instructors will usually place their hands above the navel to trigger this energy center. For females, they will rotate left and with males they will rotate right. This will help in clearing the blocked energies in this area. If something emotional or traumatic has happened, this is usually where the blocked energies will be. Once this is opened, different emotions will also be able to open.

If a Reiki instructor decides to use Reiki toning, then they will begin on a low tone of E. This will then be complimented with the mantra of ‘ram’. This helps to send extra vibrations through the body and helps to clear the solar plexus area. In relation to this, some Reiki instructors will also use the aromas of lavender, rosemary and bergamot to clear this area. Gemstones may also be used in this process. This includes amber, tiger’s eye, yellow topaz and citrine. All of these gemstones will help with the healing process of the solar plexus through their complimentary universal energies.

The solar plexus chakra is the last of the lower chakras and is the most complex of the three. It’s relation to the body relies on the emotions that are being generated by that person. By opening up the solar plexus chakra and healing its center, one will find many differences in their health.

Shamballa Reiki

May 22nd, 2008

Shamballa Reiki is an important subset of the Reiki craft. Shamballa Reiki is a combination of two methods of healing that, when used together, can be called upon to access universal energies. The idea of Shamballa is based on older Eastern practices. One usually uses Shamballa Reiki in conjunction with other forms of Reiki practices in order to improve the overall experience.

Shamballa is an ancient Eastern concept that is often associated with Buddhist practice. “Shamballa” means spiritual warrior. In the practice of Shamballa, one goes through several levels of training. In each level, they learn new concepts about things such as basic goodness and learning to live your life with love and goodness. Part of the concept of the Shamballa method is to be able to look inwards for the answers. Those who have achieved those answers can then take Shamballa precepts to help enlighten all of society. To be enlightened in this sense means to have an unlimited amount of compassion for those around you. This basic concept of universal goodness is practiced through meditation techniques.

Shamballa relies on the traditional concepts used in Reiki to allow healing through the universal energies. One starts by first looking inwards for certain blocks of energies and concepts, then one moves outwards by following the Reiki tradition and replacing inner energies with universal energies.

By combining both of these concepts, of inside and in the general community, one who is enrolled in Shamballa Reiki will be able to heal and find empowerment within them at the same time. From this good state, one will be able to take the concepts into their everyday lives. Those in Shamballa harmony can practice ways and techniques through discipline and meditation in order to find enlightenment, empowerment and compassion.

When a practitioner is using the Shamballa Reiki method for your healing, they will call on certain universal energies to help him and you. Usually, these will be based around ideas and concepts of love from universal energies. Bringing in outside forces intensifies the experience, and allows for a different type of energy to be manifested when you are going through a healing session with a Reiki practitioner.

If you are interested in practicing different techniques of Shamballa Reiki, there are several classes that you will be able to take. These will often focus on traditional Eastern healing methods. This may include things such as Qi Gong, strengthening exercises and meditation practices. By combining these methods, you will multiply the effectiveness of each and arrive at a better state in the end.

The combination of older Eastern traditions with Reiki has helped for those who are interested in studying Eastern philosophies and helped them in their healing processes. By studying Shamballa Reike, you can become a spiritual warrior in everyday life. You can also learn how to empower yourself in two ways—internally and externally—by calling on universal energies.

If you are interested in finding a different method to your healing, while using a secondary method with it, then Shamballa Reiki may be something for you to look into.

The Sacral Chakra in Reiki

May 21st, 2008

The sacral chakra is an area on the body that is located between the upper parts of the sacrum. This chakra is important in communicating and opening to universal energies, as well as helping with healing in Reiki. Because of these properties, people use the sacral chakra as a way to help with healing. There are several ways in which a Reiki practitioner will open this chakra so that universal energies can be moved and communicated through the body.

The sacral chakra is also known as the cross center. It is known to hold emotions, sexual energies and creative energy. If one is strong in this chakra center, then they will have an easier time with out of body experiences. Because of this, it is important to make sure that this chakra is not blocked and is able to exchange with universal energies.

The sacral chakra has the characteristics of creative energies as its main function. This is usually developed between the ages of 7 and 14. Many will attribute this chakra with the sense of taste as well. It is known in Eastern tradition as the six petal lotus, which is connected to the element of earth. If this chakra is blocked, there will be an inability for things to physically, mentally and emotionally.

When a Reiki practitioner begins to heal this area, they will place their hands by the sacrum. This may be done either on the front or the back of the person. With females, they will unblock this area by rotating to the right. With males, they will spin to the left in order to clear the area. This is known to not only clear this area, but also to help with reproductive glands or the prostate. Some will choose to associate certain attunements and mantras with this as well.

The first mantra that may be used is a ‘vam’ sound. The tone that is used in relation to this is on a D. Some may also choose to use aromatherapy when clearing out this chakra. Ylang-ylang oil and sandalwood are the two recommended aromas to use. If one prefers, they can use a gemstone in relation to this. Carnelian and moonstones are the best type of gemstone to use when clearing this section.

When the Reiki process is finished, the sacral chakra should open to the universal energies. One may see that the aura surrounding this chakra will be an orange color in its pure state. Often times, after one has had this section cleared, they will sleep for eight to ten hours in a prenatal state. They may also have visions of moonlight and clear water during or after the process.

When one opens their sacral chakra, they are able to open emotions and creativity to the universal energies. By doing this, it not only helps in healing physical ailments, such as the reproductive area, but also will help in clearing other emotional blocks. Any combination of the latter mentioned techniques can be used when clearing the sacral chakra.

Reiki and the Throat Chakra

May 20th, 2008

The throat chakra is one of the steps that Reiki practitioners will focus on during the healing method. When the throat chakra is opened, it allows for better communication to occur on many different levels. In relation to this, there are several techniques that can be used in the opening of the throat chakra.

The throat chakra is located between the inner collarbone and the larynx of the throat. It is known to be the center for communication and inspiration. Some will call the throat chakra the communication center. If there are blocks in the throat chakra it may cause problems with how one communicates with others and will not allow energy to flow freely to other chakras.

The throat chakra is also the part of the chakras that are used for resonance. This resonance is for both hearing and being. It is associated with the sixteen petal lotus with how the aura is shaped. The aura color of the throat chakra should be a pale blue when cleared. Some will also see a silver and turquoise color aura that is associated with the throat chakra.

If a Reiki instructor is working on your throat chakra, they will first place their hands by your collarbone and throat. For females, this energy can be cleared by rotating left, and for males, the Reiki practitioner will rotate right. Many say that this will not only affect the throat, but also the thyroid and parathyroid glands.

Other Reiki practitioners may use Reiki toning when clearing the throat chakra. The attunement, or mantra, that is used in relation to clearing the throat chakra is the ‘ham’ sound. This allows for a vibration to change the energy flow in the communication center.

Other Reiki healers will use gemstones in relation to the communication chakra. The best gemstones that can be used include aquamarine, turquoise and chalcedony. These gemstones can either be gently placed on the persons’ throat chakra, or they can be placed in different areas where a person rests, which will clear the blocking over a longer period of time. Several practitioners may also use aromas to help with this clearing. Sage and eucalyptus are known to be the best methods of clearing with the communication center. These aromas will then move into the energy center of the throat and help in removing the blocks.

When one is clearing the throat center, it is said those four to five hours of sleep on either the right or left side will help with the clearing. It is also said that having visions of water and sky is a common practice to help with the clearing of this center. When one clears the throat chakra through different attunements, it helps one to be able to communicate better. It will also help with a couple of the lower glands in relation to this. Reiki methods that are used in order to clear the blocked energy in the throat chakra will allow for this portal to open to the rest of the body.

Reflexology Expectations

May 20th, 2008

Reflexology can bring your body to a state of well-being!

The practice of reflexology is meant to bring your body to a state of well-being. Only in this state is your body able to heal itself and perform at an optimal level. If your body is full of toxins, your immune system is severely compromised, making you much more likely to succumb to sickness and disease.

Once you have made the decision to visit a trained reflexologist, you may be wondering what you can expect from him or her. You may also be asking yourself, what if I am embarrassed about my feet, or my feet are ticklish, how will I be able to handle the therapy? All of these are good questions.

Don’t worry about how your feet look. All feet are different and there is nothing to be ashamed about. The only possible thing that might come up in direct relation to the appearance of your feet may be if you have a severe problem with corns or the like. In this case, your reflexologist may recommend treatment options.

Ticklish feet are not usually a problem for a reflexologist. Once pressure is applied, the sensation will quickly turn from a tickle to massage and you should be ok. Very, and I mean very few people that claim to have ticklish feet are unable to go through with the therapy.

Your therapy session will begin with a questionnaire or one on one question and answer session. This is, of course to get your personal history and determine where your therapy should be most concentrated. For example, if you are going in suffering from frequent migraines and neck pain, your reflexologist will concentrate on the areas of the feet and sometimes the hands, in areas that deal with the head and neck. Of course, you will be treated in all areas of the feet. In order to bring your body to a state of well-being, you must detoxify your organs and this is exactly what happens during reflexology therapy. Although reflexology is proven to be beneficial for a multitude of problems, your reflexologist cannot diagnose or claim to cure any diseases. They are not medically trained to do so.

After the initial interview, your ears, feet and hands will probably be thoroughly looked over for discolorations and tender spots. According to the theories reflexology stems from, these things can be warning signs that correlating body parts are not functioning as they should.

At this point the therapy will begin. It will usually start with rubbing of the ears, hands or feet and then will turn into pressing. It closely mimics acupuncture, but without needles. By pressing in certain areas of the feet, hands and even the ears, the brain will send signals and release neurochemicals to stop pain and relieve tension.

Probably one of the biggest expectations is relaxation. It is true that you will become very relaxed during the therapy. It is one of the single most powerful ways to relax and eliminate stress in your body. Once you try it you will be a believer.

Dealing with School Stress

May 19th, 2008

Stress in school is a big topic these days. Are you a student suffering from stress? If this is the case, then this article is for you.

As students are being asked to do more, there is a pressure to handle more and more tasks. That pressure can lead to undue stress. Just as their parents suffer from stress in the workplace and at home, students also suffer stress from work, social contacts and family strife. What can students do in order to reduce the deleterious effects of stress in their daily lives?

Students can help to reduce the likelihood of stress occurring by following these simple rules:

  • Know your learning style; are you a visual learner, or a kinesthetic or auditory learner? Adjust your study habits so that you are accommodating your learning style.
  • Create a study friendly environment in your room or other place where you normally study. Make use of aromatherapy, soothing music and keep distractions away.
  • Learn to manage your time by staying organized and on schedule. Use a day planner, or electronic calendar to keep track of due dates and special assignments. Plan study times throughout the week.
  • Visualize yourself achieving your school goals. Take a few moments each day to make a mental image of how you will look and feel when you achieve a certain school goal.
  • Develop positive habits. Learn how to think in positive terms about self-image. Learn how to accept failure as a learning tool that will increase your likelihood of future success.

What other measures can you take? Remember that sleep is your friend; do not cheat yourself of something that is beneficial to your well being. Planning study time and sticking to your plan will leave you the required time to sleep. Those individuals who are sleep-deprived have more trouble learning facts, and have difficulty remembering them. Those who do not get enough sleep, perform poorly. If possible, take afternoon naps to help you stay fresh and alert especially when dealing with extra assignments or a heavy schedule.

Stress that is chronic can actually affect your ability to learn and to remember facts. Learning how to manage stress is an important school tool. Learn and practice good study skills right from the start. If you are prepared for class, you will not be as stressed as someone who is unprepared.

Stress is dissipated if you share your duties with friends. Take advantage of any mentoring, tutoring or study groups offered by your school. Ask friends to study together or compare notes from class. Make sure study groups do not turn into parties. Leave the fun and games for celebrating after the grades are won.

You need physical activity, healthy meals and snacks and plenty of sleep in order to do well in school. When you lack in any of these areas, you can become stressed. Make sure you are exercising on a regular basis, are eating the proper amounts of fruits, vegetables and dairy for your age groups, and get at least 6 to 8 hours of sleep each night.

Reiki and the Crown Chakra

May 19th, 2008

The opening of the crown chakra in Reiki is usually the first step that is taken with the healing process. The crown chakra is known to be the place where the consciousness can be awakened, making it an important first step in the healing process. In relation to this, there are several ways and techniques that Reiki practitioners will use when working on and with the crown chakra.

The crown chakra is located from the top of the head and moves upward and outward past the body. The crown chakra will always be the first portal to be opened. This is because it is the point where the soul and the physical body cross over.

The crown chakra is also known to be the part of the soul that is the pure being. Many will refer to this as the seventh chakra, or the one-thousand petal lotus. Many will also refer to the crown chakra as the part of the soul that is purest. This is the place where the consciousness is awakened and where one is able to transcend into different types of thinking and mastery.

In relation to this are several different types of methods that can be used to awaken and unblock the crown chakra. When one refers to the aura of the chakra, it is said to be a violet, white or gold. When a master looks at the crown chakra, they will be able to see whether it is blocked by seeing the color of aura and energy that is related to it. Depending on the type of Reiki that is being used, and the techniques in relation to it, they can then work on opening the crown chakra.

If a Reiki master is using mantras and chanting, then they will use the mantra of ‘ohm’ in order to awaken the crown chakra. Usually, the awakening will not completely happen unless one is in a half awake state of mind. This is because it allows the mind to relax, which then can allow the mind to awaken.

Other Reiki masters will use gemstones to help with opening the crown chakra. Amethyst and rock crystal are the two most popular types of gemstones that are used when awakening this chakra. Others will choose to use certain aromas in relation to the crown chakra. The aromas that will work best include lotus and olibanum.

From here, symbols as well as more attunements can be used in order to help the crown chakra to open. Each of these actions helps with the energy that is moving into the crown chakra. Once this portal is opened, it will allow for easier healing to be done and will begin to awaken the consciousness of the person who is using Reiki as a healing technique.

After the crown chakra attunements are completed, the Reiki master will then move into other areas of being able to help the person who is using Reiki to heal. When the crown chakra is opened using these attunements it will help them in consciousness, awareness, and practicing the different techniques of Reiki.

Reflexology Gains Popularity

May 19th, 2008

Where conventional medicine has failed, natural medicine can make a real difference. This is true of herbal medicine, meditation, and massage. This article deals with how reflexology is helping to alleviate symptoms and improve one’s overall health.

Far Eastern cultures have been using alternative treatments for thousands of years. In most places of the world, natural medicine is the first line of defense against sickness and disease. Even the most technically advanced countries such as China and Japan appreciate the effectiveness and simplicity of natural medicine. We could benefit from the knowledge that has been gathered by those cultures. Where conventional medicine has failed, natural medicine can make a real difference.

Natural medicine and alternative treatments has become a booming industry. Our society has become interested in how to help cure us from common problems such as allergies, depression and anxiety. With so many products claiming to be the next miracle cure, how do you really know what kind of alternative therapy to use? Maybe it is time to give reflexology a try.

If you are unfamiliar with reflexology, here are the basics: Reflexology is the practice of applying pressure in a strategic manner to areas of the feet and hands, and the face and ears. Reflexologists see the hands and feet as a portal to the body’s systems. Each section of the feet and hands correlate to a specific organ. By stimulating nerves on specific areas of the feet and hands, you can stimulate blood flow and eliminate toxin buildup in the corresponding organs and systems of the body.

Although reflexologists cannot diagnose or claim to cure a sickness or disease, it is one of the most sought-after treatments today. Not only is it beneficial as a tool for relaxation and stress relief, but it is also an effective tool for improving circulation; relieving pain, and as an immune and nervous system stimulator. Many with illnesses such as allergies; chronic sinus problems; acid reflux; migraines; PMS; menopause; insomnia; fertility problems and even arthritis have been helped tremendously by reflexology treatments.

What do you do if you don’t like the idea of others touching your feet? What if you can’t afford sessions with a reflexologist? You can opt to learn basic reflexology yourself. I prefer this method not only because it is free, but also because it is convenient. If you want to dig in and learn the basics, there are many online reflexology courses you can take. Moreover, many adult education programs offer weekend reflexology programs. Check with your local school district to find a class near you. Although these weekend seminars will not authorize you to claim yourself as a reflexologist, you will learn enough to effectively treat yourself and your family.

The bottom line is that reflexology has proved to be a therapy that is beneficial for everyone. It is the perfect complimentary medicine whether or not you must take prescription drugs or not. Once you try it you will understand why reflexology has found a permanent place in the health industry.

Stress at Work - How to Deal with It

May 16th, 2008

We all know about stress at work. Do these examples look familiar?

  • Your boss has moved the deadline for your report up a few days
  • you have an annoying co-worker
  • you have an in-basket that reaches the ceiling
  • your paycheck is too small to cover your needed expenses

Work stress comes in all flavors (people, events, deadlines, environment)–coping with them can be a real juggling act. There are ways to minimize work stress, here are a few things you can do right now.

People:

You can’t always choose your boss or your co-workers. You have to live with their idiosyncrasies, or idiocies, depending on your point of view. Unless you decide to quit, you have to deal with the over-bearing boss or the pesky co-worker. This can be challenging and not dealing with them can add stress to your life.

One way to deal is to keep your work life separate from your home life. Try to keep your home life private. This will make it easier to leave work behind when you exit the building. Be in your “work mode” during working hours and then as you exit the building shake off those work bugs and physically relax your muscles for the ride home. Turn on your favorite music station on the radio or tune into your MP3 player and listen to some fun or relaxing music.

Events:

Work meetings, seminars, work-teams and work travel can all add to the stress level. Learn how to organize, plan for tasks in advance, delegate your other responsibilities and ask for help when needed. Reward yourself when an event is over, successful or not. Find ways to relax during the event like, for example, doing yoga or going for a walk at lunch. Make friends at the event so that you can share experiences and pass the time.

Deadlines:

The best way to beat stress that comes with deadlines is to plan for success. Keep your workstation and tools clean and neat. Know what tasks need to be done first; which ones will be the most time consuming and how to accomplish them with accuracy and efficiency. Ask for guidelines during the planning stage of the task. The best way to reduce stress is to not experience any surprises. Make sure you understand the assignment before it begins. Use organizational tools like calendars, day planners and software when applicable to automate repetitive tasks.

Environment:

The work environment can contain many stress triggers, from pollutants like cigarette smoke to dust or clutter. Address these issues with the people you work with. By brainstorming with your co-workers, you may find ways to reduce stress by controlling pollutants, removing dust and de-cluttering the workstations.

Evaluating the people, events, deadlines, and environment at your place of work can help you to come up with creative ways to cope in advance with the stress. Keep in mind that your work is but a portion of your total life and then go out and have some fun when work is done.

Reiki for the Brow Chakra

May 16th, 2008

The brow chakra is commonly referred to as the third eye in Reiki, and is also referred to in other forms of meditation from Eastern countries. The brow chakra is the sixth chakra, and is used for a portal for universal energies. The healing and flow of energy to this chakra contains several different elements. In relation to this, the third eye chakra holds several special characteristics.

The brow chakra is located above the nose and in the center of the forehead. This particular chakra is known to be the beginning of higher consciousness and mental powers. Many cultures believe that this chakra is the most important to understanding spirituality and metaphysical truth. Because of this, many will also refer to it as the Eye of Wisdom, Inner Eye Chakra or the Command Chakra.

The most prominent characteristic in the third eye chakra relates to the knowledge of being. This is said to be the most apparent when one is between the ages of 35 and 42. Recognizing things is another aspect that is apparent with the third eye chakra. Many who have psychic abilities and high intuition are said to have an open third eye. When it is open, the aura is said to be like the ninety-six petal lotus. The aura that will be seen in relation to this is indigo. Yellow and violet may also mix with this aura.

When a Reiki practitioner is sending universal energies to this area or clearing a blockage, they will gently place their hands above the eyes and on the forehead. They will then move in a circular motion in order to release old energies and let universal energies in. For females, the movement is a clockwise circulation, and for males, this is counter-clockwise.

There may also be several other methods that can be used in relation to this healing method. In Reiki toning, the note of A may be used on the mantra of ‘Ksham’. The vibration used in this sound will open up the energies to the universal energy. The aromas of mint and jasmine may also be used when clearing this chakra. Gemstones that may be placed on this area include lapis lazuli, indigo sapphire and sodalities. All of these will send energies to the brow chakra to help in releasing the negative energies and opening the third eye to higher consciousness.

Many times, when one needs healing with their pituitary gland they will work on sending energies through the third eye chakra, as they are known to both be connected. After someone has been through this healing, they may remain in a half awake state of mind for at least four hours. They may also experience visions of the night time sky as a direct relation to the third eye chakra.

When opening the third eye chakra to the universal energies through Reiki healing, it allows one to move to a level of deeper understandings and mental states. Through the different techniques that are used, one will easily be able to open the third eye chakra to the universe.
