What to Do About Nutrition and Allergies

Tuesday, May 13th, 2008

One of the major problems that you can run into when trying to eat a healthy diet and find the right foods are allergies that may come up with different types of foods as well as from different seasons. The first step in relieving allergies to help with nutrition is recognizing the source where it is coming from. From here, you will be able to find several solutions to get the nutrition you need in food without allergy problems.

An allergy is a reaction that happens in your body when there is not recognition of the food or substance that is in it. The body will react by creating a defense mechanism to fight off the substance. It does this by making antibodies through chemicals known as histamines. This then causes the body to react to the substance.

There are several natural things that you can do to change the body’s reaction to the substances that are in your system. One of the solutions is to cause an alternate reaction with the body. This can be done by eating a variety of different supplements. By doing this, it will cause the chemicals in your body to stop reacting as much. Drinking water, eating more fruits and vegetables, white fish, turkey and almonds, walnuts and sunflower seeds all allow for the chemicals in your body to slow down and minimize the allergy reaction.

There are also certain vitamin supplements that you can take that will reduce allergies. Vitamins C, A and E, Zinc are the recommended vitamins that will fight allergy reactions. You can also take gamm linoleic acid, (GLA), extra enzymes, and colon cleansing products, such as high fiber, garlic and cayenne pepper. These are all known to help balance your body so that it doesn’t react through allergies.

There are several different natural formulas that are available as well to help fight allergies. Green Tea, selenium, licorice root, copper and magnesium are all available as supplements or in teas. This will help to calm down the chemicals in your body.

If your allergies do not seem to be getting any better, you can also ask your doctor for the best substance to use. There are several over the counter or prescribed medications that are popular for bad allergies. These will block the chemical from being able to produce, which will eliminate the allergy. Some will have laser correction if the allergies are extreme.

Allergies can get in the way of you being able to eat nutritious food as well as to feel that you are living healthy. By using a variety of methods, you can fight off allergies. If the allergies are from the food that you are eating, then it is important to first find which food it is, and then supplement it with a vitamin or another type of food. Knowing what you are body is reacting to then using the proper reaction to it will allow for your allergies to disappear. From here, you can add to your nutritious lifestyle.

Detoxify and Improve Concentration

Friday, May 2nd, 2008

Did you know that problems such as lack of concentration, headaches, skin problems, fatigue, backache, lung, and sinus congestion could all be caused by a build up of toxins in the body? If you are unaware of the importance of detoxification, please read this article.

Toxins are everywhere. The food we eat, the products we clean ourselves with, as well as the air we breathe all contribute to the build up of toxins in our bodies. Without effectively eliminating those toxins from our organs, they will eventually wreak havoc and we risk contracting a number of illnesses. In a society that relies heavily on chemically-laden prescription drugs, psychotherapy and surgical procedures to “heal” the sick, it is more than time to put matters into your own hands. Pursue a strategy of detoxification—it will help you to stay healthy!

When the digestive system experiences imbalances, the whole body is affected. Most diseases and even common problems such as poor concentration, constipation and gas result from having digestive system malfunctions. So, what causes digestive malfunction and imbalance? There are many causes, but stress is the most common and most destructive. Stress targets the digestive system and if it gets a hold there, the rest of the body is in for a rough ride. According to a number of research studies, most diseases start from a digestive system problem. To cure the diseases of today, we must dig into the digestive system and fix the problem at the source.

Reflexology presents a solution to this common problem of toxin buildup in the body. Reflexology applies pressure strategically to points (or to ‘reflexes’ of the feet and hands), which are thought to correspond to specific body organs. By stimulating nerves on specific areas of the feet and hands, we can stimulate blood flow and eliminate toxin buildup in the corresponding organs and systems of the body.

Reflexology is not only effective for self-healing, but it also is known as an effective detoxification procedure as well. And maybe most importantly in today’s society, Reflexology can be free, if you are willing to learn the techniques yourself. Yes, unlike our current healthcare system, reflexology therapy is available to everyone!

Studies have been done that show that lack of concentration could be due to heavy metal buildup in the body. My daughter for example, suffers from ADHD and bipolar disorder. When tested for heavy metal toxicity, she was high in copper and mercury very low in zinc. When she was given zinc supplements and taken off vitamins that contain copper, her condition did improve dramatically. In addition, she benefited from a colon cleansing in order to reduce the amount of mercury buildup.

Reflexology treatment along with a good diet can make a substantial difference in concentration ability; sleep problems and many other common health complaints. I always advise that people at least go to one reflexology session to feel the difference for themselves. No matter what your physical or emotional problem may be chances are you will be hooked after just one treatment. In fact, many people find that they want to learn the techniques for themselves so that they can experience the benefits on a regular basis.

Your Health and Colon Cleansing

Thursday, February 14th, 2008

Unless your physician is one of the rare individuals who has found a way to marry medical science with the age-old wisdom found in homeopathy the odds are good that your doctor has not talked to you about regularly cleansing your colon. As a matter of fact, the closest your medical doctor may have ever gotten to even recommending this procedure is most likely prior to suggesting a colonoscopy or polyps removal.

Sadly, many medical doctors are not well versed in the health of the digestive tract in general and the colon in particular. Even though they are able explain the various anatomical fine points of the colon to their patients, by and large their knowledge is limited to such an extent that they advise those seeking help that the colon’s purpose consists of the removal of water from the feces and absorption of vitamins. Unless there is an ailment or a particular kind of checkup scheduled, very little thought is given to the overall health and functioning of the colon.

Thus, many patients are robbed of the knowledge that colon cleansing is vital for their overall health and fewer still know of the benefits that a regular colon cleansing will give. Unless you eat organic foods all the time, only drink filtered spring water, and do not expose yourself to the ingestion of any harmful substances, there is a good chance that several toxins will be found in your colon at one point or another. The more you live in the real world, the more plentiful the toxins. Since virtually nobody is able to live free from the contaminants that surround each and every person, and since there are only a handful of people who eat the right foods all the time, it is safe to say that everyone has toxins in their colon that must be removed.

Yet even if your diet overall is natural and safe, consider the fact that the feces that are accumulated in your colon do not always get evacuated quickly and completely. Thus, they will continue to ferment and putrefy, and eventually create toxins of their own that will be absorbed into your bloodstream and contribute to ill health which is often first expressed in a lack of energy, noticeable skin conditions, sinus problems, joint pain, and also problems with other organs of the body.

In only makes sense to regularly flush out any waste products from your colon before the toxic substances and have a chance to turn into other health problems. Will you be able to live a long life without ever cleansing your colon? Most likely the answer is yes. Yet if you wonder if you will enjoy your life to its fullest extent and truly experience the highest quality of life without the annoying aches, then the answer is probably a no.

Colon Cleansers: The Last Resort for Treating Chronic Constipation

Wednesday, February 13th, 2008

If you have ever suffered from constipation, you know the discomfort it causes. Your stomach feels bloated, bending from the waist is accompanied by pain and abdominal pressure, you dread using the bathroom and of course the inability to truly enjoy any activity because of the physical discomfort associated with movement in general.

Yet all of these symptoms pale when considering that there is a segment of the population for whom this is not an exception but rather the norm. Dealing with this painful condition day in and day out, these constipation sufferers may drink prune juice by the pint, swallow laxatives and stool softeners, and still are not able to consistently and without help achieve a bowel movement that is not painful.

Causes for constipation vary.

  • Improper diet is at the top of the list and usually an increase in fiber and water intake will help alleviate the problem somewhat.
  • The use of medication will impact the colon’s ability to move the fecal matter in a manner that is consistent with its intended function.
  • Overuse of iron and calcium containing supplementation will cause stool to become hardened.
  • The creation of a blockage that narrows the intestine to such an extent that passage is nearly impossible.

While the occasional bout of constipation is quickly and easily dealt with, the occurrences of chronic constipation need decisive action. Especially in the case of a blockage, an intervention that once again frees the movement inside the intestines is of utmost importance. When done inside a doctor’s office, colonic irrigation is quite commonly the term utilized for the manual probing and cleansing out of the colon and removal of fecal matter. Alternative healers like to use colon hydrotherapy which is gentler and helps to rid the colon of more accumulated waste.

Yet perhaps no form of treatment is as easily accomplished, safe, and gentle as the colon cleanse. Done in the privacy of your own home, you will be able to help your intestines to rid themselves of hardened fecal matter that may have been accumulating for more than decades!

While with healthy nutritional choices the accumulation of fecal matter is slow, the average American diet is predominantly unhealthy, and thus accumulation of waste is accelerated to such an extent that regular colon cleanse regimens are needed.

While unable to cure every conceivable reason for experiencing constipation, colon cleansers as a last resort will remove the blockages that narrow the passage through the intestines and remove the physical barriers to passing fecal matter along. Similarly, because of the removal of such matter, the intestines will once again be enabled to properly extract nutrients and water from fecal matter and thus many physiological reasons for constipation are removed. Thus, when occasional bouts of constipation occur, the use of prune juice and whole grain products will most likely get your body back on track and not require a doctor’s attention.

Keeping your Appendix Healthy with a Colon Cleanse

Friday, February 8th, 2008

What if you found out that a recent surgery could have been avoided altogether with a seven day treatment regimen known as a colon cleanse? This is the case with some appendectomies which are the direct result of neglected colon health. The appendix itself is a small, easily forgotten organ that does not seem to fill any useful purpose. It is only thought about when a problem arises. While there are a number of causes that may impact an appendix to such an extent that it would die off and require removal, there is very real evidence that fecaloma are to be blamed in some instances.

Fecaloma refers to feces that have hardened to such an extent that they are sometimes called fecal tumors while at other times they are referred to as coproliths – stones fashioned from fecal waste. This hardened fecal matter is found in the colon where it will create blockages over time.

As more time passes, the appendix itself will become a storage vessel for mucus that will not be expelled but instead simply builds up, hardens, and builds up further. Eventually, it can no longer hold the built up mucus, blood flow will cease, and finally it becomes a mass of dying and then eventually dead cells.

As the body recognizes it as a bundle of foreign matter no longer living and part of the body itself, white blood cells will fight against the appendix and pus will begin to take up what little space there may be left in and around the appendix, eventually causing a rupture and voiding of pus into the abdominal cavity. Death is the end result if left untreated and a removal of the appendix is the only way to save the patient’s life.

What makes this particular course of action so unnecessary is the fact that with a little bit of effort appendicitis due to fecaloma could have been avoided. Since these obstructions are little more than hardened fecal matter, a lifestyle that includes a diet rich in raw fibrous veggies, fruits, and whole grains would consistently flush out the particles.

Since the American diet is anything but healthy, additional steps need to be taken that ensure removal of fecal matter before it hardens to the extent that it could adversely affect the health of the appendix. This may be accomplished with a colon cleanse, a process that may take anywhere from three, to five or seven days and simply focuses on the removal of built up fecal matter from the intestines.

A temporary change in diet accompanies the use of supplements which mix laxative properties with stool liquefying agents, thus permitting the hardened matter to be loosened from the walls of the intestines and thus get flushed out of the body.

Even though not each case of appendicitis is directly related to a buildup of fecal matter, in cases where it is at the root cause, the fact that this ailment could have been avoided should give you pause and reinforce your commitment to better colon health.

The Most Commonly Overlooked Aspect of the Colon Cleanse

Thursday, February 7th, 2008

As a health conscious consumer, you know that colon cleanses are a must for ensuring your body’s overall wellbeing and ensuring that your digestive tract is in good working order. While you may also be well versed in the different kinds of cleanses available, you may not be aware of the fact that some of the bacteria which are flushed out with fecal matter and toxins are considered beneficial to the workings of the gastrointestinal health, and will therefore need to be replenished.

While this in and of itself is not a dangerous oversight, it is one of the most often overlooked aspects of a successful colon cleanse. Therefore, the entire cleanse leaves the intestinal tract at a distinct disadvantage simply because of the failure to replenish the depleted microorganisms that ensure proper digestion. These are commonly referred to as micro flora or even gut flora, and it is their job to inhibit the takeover of the intestines by harmful bacteria. Additionally, the very gut flora that is flushed out together with the harmful substances is responsible for the production of vitally necessary biotin as well as vitamin K.

It is important to mention that the very toxins which affect the body because they are being leaked into the system by waste not properly evacuated from the body are also responsible for the reduction of gut flora. Yet the cure sought by health practitioners and individuals alike, constituting of fasting and enemas or colon cleanses, also causes the numbers of helpful bacteria to diminish.

To counteract the effect, many health food stores now sell probiotics in conjunction with colon cleanse supplementation; There is another form of replenishing the gut flora which used to be all the rage when Mr. Kellogg operated his sanitarium but over the decades has almost been forgotten: the yogurt enema.

Replenishing the useful bacteria with the help of yogurt taking orally is well known, yet introducing it to the colon via an enema is not usually thought of. Since it is highly effective and quite easy to accomplish, however, there no longer is any excuse to forego this important step of revitalizing your colon.

Simply mix about two tablespoons of plain, regular yogurt with one tablespoon of live, liquid acidophilus bacteria. Further add two cups of lukewarm, filtered water, blend the mixture well, and then transfer the entire mix into the bag you use for your enema. Proper mixing will ensure that you have no clumps clogging the tubing. When using this methodology you will need to try very hard to retain the liquid inside your colon for about 15 minutes to permit the bacteria the best odds for invading your gastrointestinal tract.

Combine this approach with an oral supplementation of acidophilus cultures by eating plain yogurt and also adding supplements to your everyday diet that contain them. This promotes the proper flourishing of the beneficial gut flora while at the same time will also help your colon cleanse to leave your intestines in their best working condition possible.

The Seven Steps of a Successful Colon Cleanse

Friday, December 21st, 2007

The average American becomes familiar with high-fat, high sodium, low nutrient food choices very early on in life. Fast food french fries are top on the list of toddlers favorite foods. Add to that the heavily marketed meals that include toys and colorful bags as well as restaurants that include playgrounds, you will quickly understand why fast food is such a hit with even the youngest consumers! Over the years, sodium, fat, and toxins will build up in the body and before long it will have resulted in several pounds of hardened fecal matter in the colon.

Fortunately, colon cleanses are promising to rid the body of this accumulated waste material and thus the colon cleanse regimen was born. Yet not surprisingly, many Americans are taking a fast food approach to this procedure as well. Rather than changing unhealthy eating patterns or perhaps even going on a diet, the communal sentiment involves the popping of a few laxatives or colon cleanse supplements in the hopes of taking care of the colon’s needs. Quite obviously this approach will not offer you the full benefit, and instead may actually cause more harm than good.

To receive the full benefit of a colon cleanse, you will need to follow a seven-step regimen:

  1. Purchase a colon-cleanse home kit that includes all the supplementation you need. Make sure that it will provide substances for a replenishing of the gut flora after the cleansing and that the ingredients are certified organic - if you choose a natural cleanse - or no harsh chemicals that will cause an imbalance of electrolytes if you choose to go the other route.
  2. Read the instructions completely from start to finish.
  3. Generally speaking, the cleansings are three, five or seven day procedures. During that time, you will need to alter your eating patterns. Commit to only eating and drinking that which is permitted.
  4. If vegetables are permitted, purchase high quality, fresh, organic veggies and eat them raw whenever possible.
  5. If the cleanse calls for broths and soups, prepare them at home following the recipes given. Failure to follow this instruction to the letter will result in your ending up with commercially mixed concoctions that provide your body with more sodium than it needs.
  6. Drink a lot of water, but do not overdo it! Those who barely keep up with the recommended eight glasses a day should not suddenly guzzle the liquid by the gallon, since it will adversely affect the kidneys.
  7. Last but not least, educate yourself about better food choices and how to keep waste materials from once again accumulating quickly in your colon after the colon cleanse is completed. It is this last step which will truly give you the complete benefit of the entire colon cleansing procedure. Thus, it is by far the second most important step of the entire cleansing regimen!

Was your Colon Cleanser Made In China?

Tuesday, December 18th, 2007

Many people have become more health conscious and for many of them good health begins in the bowels. Unfortunately, many colon cleansers contain herbs that were grown in China or India. While the bottle touts the effect the natural cleanser on your body, there is no mention of the conditions under which the herbs were grown.

It is likely that the label will not list organic ingredients, instead glossing over this lack of verbiage with the many advantages that natural ingredients are said to offer.

Recently, China has come under fire for being a leading cause of many recalls that are plaguing the toy industry. Lead paint is the culprit and even though it has been reported that proper paints have been provided to the manufacturing plants in that part of the world, for reasons unknown the paint was not used and instead substituted with the dangerous lead-containing pigment instead. While this in no way implies that all goods manufactured in China - or any of the other foreign countries to which the production of goods has been farmed out - are substandard, it does cause concern to those who purchase ingestible supplements, such as colon cleansers, that are either made in China or contain plant materials grown there.

Unfortunately, the colon cleanser you may be ingesting in an effort to rid your body of toxins may actually be shock full of pesticides, herbicides, heavy metal containing fertilizers, and pollutants from nearby highways or factories.

In addition to the a fore mentioned, the process of extracting beneficial oils and other plant matter that is indicated for the use in a colon cleanser is also questionable. While organic methods do exist, to save money it is becoming common practice to use harsh chemicals which will strip the plant materials of the oils and essentials thus introducing toxins into the otherwise beneficial herbs. Another danger not often considered is the possibility that instead of only including the fruit of one plant, the root of a second, or the stalk and leaves of the third, the entire plant is ground up and included. This provides a large amount of filler that is medicinally useless but for which consumers nonetheless pay top dollar.

In order to protect yourself, purchase natural colon cleansers only if they contain certified organic ingredients and are manufactured under organic conditions. Similarly, you will want to have a guaranteed analysis of the ingredients contained in the supplement; in other words, the makers of the colon cleanse need to be able to inform you about the minimum and maximum of any substance included. Thus, let the buyer beware before investing hard earned money into questionable colon cleansers.

A Colon Cleanse Can Get Your Body Back on the Right Track

Monday, December 17th, 2007

Are you lethargic? Do you lack energy? Does the afternoon seem to drag on and on? When you finally get home do you barely have the energy left to cook dinner, help the kids with their homework, and then do the housework? If this describes you even partially, then the odds are good that you have toxins coursing through your body that are holding nutrients hostage which would normally give you natural energy and permit you to live your life without having to resort to caffeine just to get through it.

Fighting off the sluggishness needs to be done on a more permanent basis than the occasional cup of espresso. It is important to visit a medical doctor first who will run a number of tests to ensure that you are physically healthy and that there are no vitamin deficiencies, undiagnosed or untreated illnesses that may be causing your exhaustion. Once you receive a clean bill of health, take a look at your diet. Do you live on fast food? Do you drink soda, eat processed foods, and trade highly nutritious meals throughout the day for three sit-down meals that are overloaded with carbohydrates while during the rest of the day you snack on foods that seem to consist mainly of starch, salt, and enriched flour?

If so, it is time to rethink your food choices and wherever possible include organic fruits and vegetables, as well as animal products which have been derived from organic sources. However, even though you are changing your diet, you will need to do more: getting your body back on track with a colon cleanse is quite possibly the single most overlooked item on a list of to-dos that is quick and easy to perform and offers amazing benefits!

After you have received your clean bill of health from your doctor and after you have come to some decisions with respect to your diet, you need to get rid of the toxins that you have allowed to accumulate in your colon. The colon itself is little more than the gateway fecal matter takes on its way to the anus; inside it water is reabsorbed into the body and whatever nutrients have not yet been extracted are now being removed. Not all foods lend themselves to leaving the body quickly, and the more processed foods your diet includes, the more accumulated waste matter most likely is found in your colon.

A colon cleanse will get your body back on track by removing what sometimes could be years of accumulated toxins and waste products that have not been evacuated from your body. There are a number of products on the market that will permit you to cleanse your colon to get your body back on track; by and large they rely on a high concentration of fiber that basically sweeps your colon clean and removes the lingering waste products. This will enable the colon to once again operate at peak performance. Holistic experts, who for years have been vociferous advocates for colon cleanses, suggest that an annual cleanse will be sufficient for most individuals.

Is All Magnesium Created Equal?

Friday, December 14th, 2007

When it comes to magnesium, how much you use is not as important as what kind of magnesium you use. Everyone is familiar with milk of magnesia; unfortunately, magnesium is harsh and not as safe as many would think. At the same time, when you take a good look at your multivitamin, you will find that magnesium features prominently on the list of minerals contained therein and it is considered vital to the proper functioning of your body. This begs the question: is all magnesium created equal?

In the world of magnesium there are the good, the bad, and the ugly:

The good form of magnesium - the kind that you won’t mind taking as part of your colon cleanse regimen - is magnesium oxide. This form of magnesium will enable you to cleanse your colon yet it relies on oxygenation to do so, which will make the process of the colon cleanse longer, but at the same time more natural and thus gentler on your body as a whole.

The bad kind of magnesium is magnesium sulfate. It will not kill you, and you might actually know it as Epsom salt. Once in a while it is used as a laxative mixed at home in a pinch, but for the purpose of a colon cleanse, it will not provide the decimation of the compacted fecal matter that has built up in your colon. Instead, it will simply flush out whatever fecal matter would have evacuated during your next bowel movement anyways - thus simply rushing things along a bit.

The ugly kind of magnesium is the one that is most popular: magnesium hydroxide. Do not be fooled into thinking that magnesium oxide and magnesium hydroxide are the same substance or even share similar qualities! You most likely know this product as milk of magnesia and it is indeed a powerful laxative but at the same time it depletes your intestines of vital salt, thus interfering with the electrolyte balance in your body. If you have ever noticed a friend or loved one undergoing a colon cleanse and instead of looking refreshed and vitalized they are tired, moody, and seem to run out of energy quickly, you must know that you are probably looking at someone who uses a colon cleanser that relies on magnesium hydroxide to get things moving along.

It is important to make sure you are educated on the ingredients used in the colon cleaner. It is also important to understand how the ingredients work together to achieve the colon cleansing effect. Just because one cleanser contains 10 ingredients while another only contains three, does not mean that either one is better or worse. It is the harmony between the ingredients, and the forms they take that decide the quality of the substance.
