For the purposes of this eBook, Tropical Diseases are defined as infectious diseases that are either more common or widespread in the tropics or diseases that are more difficult to prevent or control in the tropics.

So, a Tropical Disease may be contracted by people who travel to the tropics, for example on holiday or business, and then spread outside the tropics when they return home.  And, a disease may naturally occur outside of the tropics, but still be called a Tropical Disease if it is more common or widespread in the tropics or if it is more difficult to prevent or control in the tropics.
